About Our Biofacts

What is a Biofact?

A biofact is a real object from nature that helps kids connect with the natural world in a tangible way. A biofact could be a feather, a seed pod, a tooth cast, a shed snake skin or even a preserved specimen.

Are Biofacts real?

Many of our biofacts - such as feathers and seeds - are real! However, others are replicas of real things, such as casts of teeth, claws, or footprints.

Where do you source your Biofacts?

We put a lot of effort and research into finding ethically sourced biofacts. This is to avoid harming and/or exploiting the animals and environments where these biofacts come from. Feathers, sheds, and fur/hair are only collected as a result of a living animal going through a natural molting process - the animals are not harmed whatsoever. Any specimens or products from deceased animals are only those who have died naturally and were not killed for the production of the biofact.

We also check that your biofact is legal for you to own without requiring special permits or tags. For example, feathers from native bird species are illegal to own in the United States. Feathers from non-native and domesticated bird species are legal to own. We ensure that the feathers you recieve are legally aqcuired.

Allergies

If someone in your household has severe allergies from being exposed to certain natural materials, please contact us when you order. This includes: feathers, animal fur/hair, tree nuts, isopropyl alcohol. We will try our best to provide you with an alternative biofact.

Disclaimer:

Please do not try to collect your own "biofacts" without doing extensive research. Along with facing potential legal issues, much harm can be done to ecosystems if we take from nature indiscriminately. While collecting cool finds from your backyard is usually fine, public land such as State and National Parks generally ban the removal of found items.
